RICHARD
E. BANKS CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT In
1996, Attorney Richard Banks, along with Reverend Maurice Nutt, pastor
of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, began the Richard E. Banks Charity
Golf Tournament to raise money for a project the church had begun to
open a computer lab for the community which it serves. Due
to the tournament’s success, it has become a major annual charity event
in St. Louis contributing its proceeds to several noteworthy causes and
has attracted such notable individuals as Heavyweight Champ Evander Holyfield, NBC's
Bob Costas, Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, PGA legend Lee Elder,
and from the famous Jackson family, Marlon
Jackson. The tournament has raised over $100,000.00 for charity.
The Richard E. Banks Tournament donated over 30 computers to St. Louis
City Public Schools and opened three computer labs in schools where
none existed. The
tournament has also donated thousands of dollars to the Lawanga Center,
Better Family Life, Inc, St. Paul Saturdays, and Computer
Village. The focus of the tournament has always been to raise
money for local organizations which are devoted to helping children and
can truly benefit from the donation. For the past several years
the tournament has been coordinated by our own Larissa "Tina" Steele. For
